Summing up
the research conducted, it is worth noting that the lexical composition of any
language, including English, is distinguished by openness and mobility,
continuously replenishing. To a large extent, the topics of such replenishment
are due to the action of word-formation processes in the language, which are
based on the word-formation models that have already been established in the
language system.

In fact, it’s
necessary to claim that conversion as a word-formation model is one of the most
productive word-formation methods in modern English. The result of the
conversion is the formation of a lexical unit with new functions and a
different meaning. Researchers divide conversion into
substantiation, verbalization, adverbalization, and adjectivation.

Based on a
comparison of the data of the two most productive derivational conversion
models, it’s possible to conclude that the formation of verbs from nouns in
English occurs more often than the formation of nouns from verbs.

Without a
doubt, the study of conversion does not lose its relevance, being the subject
of research and controversy of many linguists. In the future, a deeper study of
the converted words of the English language is possible, as well as comparative
studies on the material of different languages.

Since language is a movable sign system, it cannot
remain static and unchanged for a long time and is constantly undergoing significant
transformations. Such transformations are due to both the development of
society and the change in technologies that prevail. These changes require the
emergence of new words, since the formation of new phenomena is inextricably
linked with the nomination process. For this reason, word formation is an
important component of any language.

The relevance of the topic of this research is due to
the fact that the lexical composition of the language is constantly changing
and replenished due to word-formation processes. One of the ways to replenish
the vocabulary of the language is word formation. The vocabulary of modern
English is replenished mainly in the process of word formation and in the
process of borrowing new words from other languages. Together with the
borrowing of new words, word formation provides an expansion and enrichment of the
vocabulary of the language. One of the most effective ways of word formation in
modern English is conversion. Conversion has become widespread in English due
to the analytical nature of this language.

The object of this research
is the conversion process, which is a derivational model in the system of
modern English.  The
subject of this research is some features of the semantic layer of conversion.


The aim of the research is
to study and analyze the most productive semantic models, namely: verbs derived
from nouns and nouns derived from verbs in the system of modern English.

The set goal implies the solution of the following
tasks:

1. Identify the role of
conversion in the word-formation system of modern English;

2. Determine the
features of the key models for the implementation of conversion in modern
English;

3. Analyze the semantic
groups of conversion in English
